Easy Flow or Owatrol Oil
One of the best ways to save money on paint is by using a paint conditioner such as Owatrol Easy Flow or Owatrol Oil. If you are using a water-based paint you would need to use Easy Flow and if you are using an oil-based paint you would need to use Owatrol Oil.
Simply adding some paint conditioner to your paint will improve the flow and workability of it. This means that you can maintain the ‘wet edge’ for longer, allowing the paint to go further. Another excellent thing that a paint conditioner does is significantly reduce brush and roller marks. This creates a much more professional looking finish.
As they gives the paint a better viscosity, it helps when painting is being carried out in more extreme cold, hot and windy conditions. Unlike the use of damaging paint thinners, they do all this without altering the inherent qualities or the finish of the paint.
Coverage calculator
We have a new and improved coverage calculator which you can find on all our paints and finishes pages to help assist you in purchasing the right amount first time. There’s nothing more frustrating than purchasing way more paint than you need!
Simply enter the width and height of the surface that you wish you paint (in metric or imperial) and our handy calculator will estimate how much you will need for your project and which product sizes we recommend.
High-quality paint
Although it may seem counter-intuitive to recommend using a high-quality paint instead of a budget, there is a good reason. You will usually find that very cheap or budget paints tend to peel and flake in a very short amount of time. This is usually because they do not have good qualities to bind to the surface.
You will usually find yourself having to do multiple coats as well to get the right opacity, so not only will you end up using more paint in the first place, the application will take a lot longer and you will usually find yourself having to repaint in 12 months due to the paint failing.
It really pays to use a high quality paint such as SCS (Solid Color Stain). This is because SCS is fortified with Easy-Bond – our mix-in bonding primer to aid with adhesion.
